1. Clean and efficient energy solutions with nanotechnology & advanced materials

The European Union has agreed on ambitious energy and climate targets for 2020 and beyond (i) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, (ii) to increase the share of renewable energy sources and (iii) to improve energy efficiency. Achieving these targets undoubtedly relies upon innovations in clean and efficient energy technologies (energy efficiency, energy harvesting, energy storage) leading to both strong reduction in cost and substantial increase in performance.
These innovations, typically enabled by nanotechnology and advanced materials, will facilitate EU-wide deployment of low carbon energy and energy efficiency technologies while at same time safeguarding and reinforcing the European industrial leadership in the sectors of nanotechnology and advanced materials.
This session presents the various ways how nanotechnology and advanced materials help in achieving cleaner and more efficient energy solutions with solar modules, windmills, rechargeable batteries, power to chemicals, grids, decarbonisation technologies, etc. The presentations will highlight the key innovation needs and business opportunities in Europe in the fields of nanotechnology and advanced materials for low carbon energy and energy efficiency technologies.
