After having worked for the US based pharmaceutical company Armour, Dr. Gernot Klotz joined Bayer in various business sections (pharmaceutical, animal health and crop protection/product development).
From February 2007 till End 2014 G. Klotz has been seconded as the Executive Director for Research and Innovation for the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic). Key areas of responsibility are innovation (technology development, innovation policies, societal acceptance of new technologies and products), the Long Range Research Initiative (LRI) Programme, a unique quality research program for decision making in innovation and regulations, as well as managing the CEFIC Research and Innovation Programme Council. He was a Board Member of the EU Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (SusChem) and a Board Member of A.SPIRE Public Private Partnership, a contractual Public-Private Partnership dedicated to innovation in resource and energy efficiency enable by the process industries.
Klotz has been called on to various advisory and steering committees at OECD, WHO and EU Commission level in areas like innovation, technology development, testing and assessment, impact on environment and health. He is currently chairing the Horizon 2020 Advisory Group for “Leadership in Enabling Industrial Technologies, Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials, Biotechnology and Advanced Manufacturing and Processing (“LEIT-NMBP”). Within the High level group on Key enabling technologies (HLG KETs), he is leading the WG linking “societal” challenges with technologies in the EC Innovation area. In 2015 he was elected as the President of Kowledge4Innovation Organisation (K4I).
