Minister, Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia
Mārīte Seile is the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia (in office since October 2014). She is responsible for education and training, youth, sport, science, space and state language policy. Mārīte Seile holds a diploma of honours for higher education in mathematics and has a teacher’s qualification, as well as a Master’s Degree in mathematics from the University of Latvia and a Master’s Degree in training systems design from the University of Twente in the
Netherlands. Her previous experience includes the position of Director of the foundation “Mission Possible” that aims to ensure quality education and to raise the attractiveness of the teacher’s profession, as well as working as a Personnel and Business Process Director in the private sector. Ms Seile also has experience in the non-governmental sector (non-profit organisation “School Support Centre” and the Soros Foundation Latvia), as well has worked as a teacher of mathematics and Deputy Head of a Secondary School in Preiļi, Latvia.
