Piero Baglioni has been the Chair of Physical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Florence since 1994 and is MIT affiliate. He was appointed as visiting scientist/professor by the Department of Chemistry of the University of Houston, the Weizmann Institute, the College de France, and MIT. He is the Director of the National Center for Colloids and Nanosciences (CSGI), and he is on the advisory boards of several international journals and a member of the scientific board of several national and international institutions and societies. He is the author of more than 400 publications in books and largely diffused international journals. He is also the author of 26 patents. In the field of conservation, he is a pioneer in the application of colloids and soft matter to the conservation of cultural heritage. He has produced several innovative methods for the consolidation and cleaning of paintings and the deacidification of historical documents.
