Desk Officer, Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Regional Development, State of Hessen
Dr. Ulrike Niedner-Kalthoff is Desk Officer in the KETs / Resource Efficiency Unit at the Ministry of Economics of the German federal state of Hessen. The Ministry is Lead Partner of the European network NANORA – Nano Regions Alliance that is currently funded through the INTERREG IVB NWE programme. NANORA unites public policy institutions, associations, clusters and research and technology centres from seven European regions. Together, they support nanotechnology SMEs and research institutions with matchmaking activities based on a unique transnational database of nano players, advice on suitable funding opportunities, and the organisation of joint trade missions to exciting nanotechnology markets.
Ulrike joined the ministry in the spring of 2013 and has since then been co-managing the Unit’s nanotechnology support activities, acting as responsible NANORA Project Manager since September 2015. Her tasks include
- Technology marketing & support and innovation strategies,
- Cooperation with political level and operative level technology stakeholders, in regional, national and European contexts, and
- Project management tasks including coordination of regional, national and transnational events.
Prior to joining the Ministry Ulrike co-managed a human resources project on good leadership in an academic context and spent several years both researching and participating in multi-stakeholder international public policy projects involving governmental and non-governmental actors. She holds a degree (German “Diplom”, MA equivalent) in Cultural Sciences from Viadrina European University Frankfurt/Oder (Germany) and obtained her PhD at the same institution in 2013 for her thesis on the negotiations around the UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity.
